President john@ropesassociates.com John Ropes is the founder and president of Ropes Associates, Inc., a leading executive search firm. He is recognized as America’s foremost expert in the recruitment and selection of senior management for developers of resort communities and large scale, master planned communities, as well as other developers and land owners in the field of real estate. Established in 1975, the firm is headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and his clients are located worldwide. Clients have included companies such as Arvida, DMB, Kapalua, Disney Development, Kiawah, Hualalai, Peninsula Papagayo, and Crescent Resources. John Ropes is a member of The Urban Land Institute (ULI), and serves as Council Counselor for the Recreational Development Councils and was former Chairman of the Recreational Development Council (Gold). Mr. Ropes is also a member of the University of Florida Real Estate Advisory Board since 2004. He was a member of ULI’s Executive Committee for Membership and served on the Membership Committee, the Program Committee, International Committee and District Council Committee. In addition, he was Chairman of the ULI Southeast Florida/Caribbean District Council and served as chairman of three conferences on Caribbean Real Estate Opportunities held in Miami in 1993, and in Puerto Rico in 1994 and 1995. He served as co-Chairman of the Local Arrangements Committee for the ULI Spring 2000 meeting in Miami. John was also a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP), and is a member of the Association of Executive Search Consultants, where he has served on the Board of Directors. As an owner/developer of two historic office buildings in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, John has been active in area organizations. He was a member of the City of Fort Lauderdale Riverwalk GOB subcommittee, the Broward Council of 100, and served on the Board of Directors for the Twig House. John Ropes earned his MBA at the University of Miami and his BA at the University of Florida. He is a licensed single-engine pilot with an IFR rating. John has two daughters, Chelsea and Katie. |

Associate morgan@ropesassociates.com As an Associate Partner of Ropes Associates, Inc., an international executive search firm specializing in real estate, Morgan Smith serves clients as a senior consultant to management. She assists clients in determining their overall goals, then identifies and attracts top candidates to meet their needs. Prior to joining Ropes Associates, Morgan worked for two years as Marketing Director for Green2go, a business-to-business Internet company in the landscape development industry. In this capacity Morgan executed the Company’s brand strategy to the real estate industry. Before that, Morgan worked for three years as Senior Account Director for McGuire Company, a boutique advertising agency specializing in resort and master planned communities. While there, she managed collective client budgets of $16 million annually and all aspects of account service. For four years prior to that, Morgan served as Director of marketing at Fisher Island, a resort community off the coast of Miami Beach, Florida. She was responsible for executing all marketing initiatives, programs, and corporate development activities. Fisher Island achieved banner real estate sales success, with average sales in excess of $100 million annually during her tenure in the 1990s. Morgan is a Full Member of the Urban Land Institute and serves on the Community Development Council nationally. She has a Master of Education degree from Southwest Texas State University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She is married to Marshall Smith, Executive Vice President of Thomas D. Wood & Company, a leading commercial real estate investment banking company in Florida. Marshall is also a member of ULI. They have two children and they reside in Coral Gables, Florida. |

Associate tara@ropesassociates.com Prior to joining Ropes Associates, Tara worked as the Executive Director of the Hamilton County Republican Party in Cincinnati, Ohio where she recruited candidates, raised money, handled media relations and actively participated in campaigns on a local, state and national level. While working for the Republican Party, Tara was a member of the Hamilton County Policy Committee, Judicial Nominating Committee, Executive Committee, Hamilton County Leadership Council and the Bush/Cheney 2004 Steering Committee. Tara was also a member of the Kids Voting Board of Trustees and was active in various other community activities. Tara graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor’s degree in History. While attending the University of Cincinnati, Tara was a member of the Conference Championship Varsity Swim Team for four years. She finaled in various events at conference, but her specialty was the 200 butterfly. She was the team’s Bearcat Award Winner for the 2000-2001 season. Since moving to Fort Lauderdale , Tara has been active in the Broward County Humane Society, and is the Broward County Chairperson for the ULI Young Leaders Group. |
